Behind The Panels

Siding is a water-management system, not just cladding.

Siding is the part of your home's envelope everyone sees and almost nobody notices, until it starts cupping, fading, or letting water in behind the walls. A proper siding install isn't about slapping panels on a house. It's about water management: the house wrap, the head flashings over every window and door, the way corners are mitred, and the way every penetration is taped before the siding goes up.

Royal Roofing Edmonton installs vinyl (Mitten, Kaycan, Royal), LP SmartSide engineered wood, and James Hardie fibre cement, along with board-and-batten accents, manufactured stone veneer, and cedar-look shake panels for feature walls. Before a single panel goes on, we wrap the house in a quality weather-resistive barrier, tape every penetration, and flash every opening the way the manufacturer actually specifies, not the way a shortcut crew would eyeball it.

Every siding project is quoted straight, installed by our own crew, and finished with pre-finished aluminum trim on corners and openings, so the lines stay crisp and the trim never needs painting. We'll walk you through colour samples and material options before you sign anything, and we're happy to quote siding alongside roofing, eavestrough, or soffit and fascia if you're looking at doing the whole exterior at once.

Systems We Install

Siding that's right for your home.

Vinyl siding

Mitten, Kaycan, Royal. Cost-effective, low-maintenance, and available in dozens of colours and profiles (lap, shake, board-and-batten accents).

LP SmartSide

Engineered wood siding with the look of real wood and better dimensional stability. Great for modern/farmhouse looks. 5/50-year warranty.

James Hardie fibre cement

Premium, rot-proof, impact-resistant. Holds paint for 15+ years. The siding you install once and forget about.

Board-and-batten accents

Vertical board-and-batten on gables, entries, or feature walls to break up long elevations and modernize the look.

Stone & shake accents

Manufactured stone veneer and cedar-look shake panels for feature walls, skirts, and chimney chases.

Full house wrap & flashings

Tyvek or equivalent house wrap, proper head flashings over every window and door, and taped penetrations. Water management, not just looks.

Aluminum trim & corners

Pre-finished aluminum trim around windows, doors, and corners. Crisp lines that won't rot or need painting.

Rigid insulation add-on

Optional continuous insulation board under the siding to cut thermal bridging and lower heating bills, especially worthwhile on older Edmonton homes.

Coordinated soffit/fascia/gutters

We can replace soffit, fascia, and eavestrough at the same time. Cleaner result, and cheaper than bringing separate trades.

FAQ

Siding questions.

Vinyl (Mitten, Kaycan, Royal), LP SmartSide engineered wood, James Hardie fibre cement, and board-and-batten accents. We'll walk you through the pros and cons of each (durability, appearance, cost, and warranty coverage) before you pick a system.

Pricing varies by material and wall area. For a typical Edmonton home with roughly 2,000 square feet of wall area, vinyl runs about $16,000 to $28,000 installed, LP SmartSide about $24,000 to $36,000, and James Hardie fibre cement about $30,000 to $50,000. Those ranges include house wrap, trim, and disposal. Your written on-site quote gives you a firm price for your specific home.

Yes. A proper siding install includes house wrap (Tyvek or equivalent), rigid insulation board where specified, flashing tape at all penetrations, and trim. Skipping these layers is where water ends up behind the siding.

Sometimes. Older vinyl lines are frequently discontinued and a perfect match isn't possible. In that case we usually recommend re-siding a single elevation instead of patching. It looks intentional rather than patched-together.

Most single-family homes are completed in three to seven working days depending on size, complexity (dormers, bay windows, stone accents), and weather. Your written quote includes a specific timeline.

It's usually smart to do these together. The trim all ties in, and it's cheaper to have one crew on-site than to bring separate crews for each. We can quote any or all of them.
